By bringing together a number of groups from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland who are involved in work within the youth and community sectors, the following outcomes would be attained:

That participants will gain a greater understanding of the role of ordinary people in the cause of developing reconciliation throughout the island

That participants will engage in the process of examining the origins, dynamics and ramifications of conflict

That the leadership of participating groups will develop their skills and abilities to manage conflict within their own setting

That participating groups begin to embed the principles of inclusion, equality and respect for difference within the culture of their own organisation

That Co-operation Ireland develops a measured tool for managing conflict in border zones

That the suitability of the ‘contact’ model within the youth and community sectors is assessed
