Programme Rationale
By bringing together a number of groups from Northern
Ireland and the Republic of Ireland who are involved in
work within the youth and community sectors, the following
outcomes would be attained:
◆ That participants will gain a greater knowledge
and appreciation of the different identities that exist on
the island of Ireland
◆ That participants will gain a greater
understanding of the role of ordinary people in the cause
of developing reconciliation throughout the island
◆ That participants will engage in the process of
examining the origins, dynamics and ramifications of
conflict
◆ That the leadership of participating groups will
develop their skills and abilities to manage conflict
within their own setting
◆ That participating groups begin to embed the
principles of inclusion, equality and respect for
difference within the culture of their own organisation
◆ That Co-operation Ireland develops a measured tool
for managing conflict in border zones
◆ That the suitability of the ‘contact’ model within
the youth and community sectors is assessed
